What is still on copper, and why
The easy lines left years ago. What remains is there because building codes, inspectors and insurers require it to work — and because ordinary internet phone service does not reliably carry the signalling these devices depend on.

What the replacement costs
Legacy copper lines commonly bill between $100 and $500 a month, and the increases have been steep. Managed replacement is a fraction of that, with newer hardware, battery backup, monitoring, and documentation an inspector will accept.
